Am I Eligible for the Student Health Insurance Plan?

Opt-Out/Waiver

All degree and non-degree seeking students (excluding Division of Unclassified Studies (DUS) and Consortium students), who are enrolled in 4+ credit hours, a 0-credit research/dissertation course, or any other course that is considered to equate to full time enrollment, are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). The premium is added to your tuition billing.

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver and supporting documentation. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Fall Semester: 06/17/2025 - 07/15/2025

*For School of Medicine MD students, this waiver period also applies to you*

Spring Semester: 12/02/2025 - 01/04/2026

Summer Semester: 04/17/2026 - 06/01/2026

 

2026-2027 Plan Year

Fall Semester: 06/17/2026 - 07/15/2026

*For School of Medicine MD students, this waiver period also applies to you*

Spring Semester: 12/02/2026 - 01/04/2027

Summer Semester: 04/17/2027 - 06/01/2027

 

If you plan to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), your other health insurance must provide coverage through August 11 of the following year.  If your coverage ends before August 11, you must either:

  1. Be eligible to renew your current coverage,
  2. Obtain comparable coverage, or
  3. Enroll in SHIP during the qualifying life event period.

If your insurance coverage does not satisfy either 1 or 2 above, you will not be eligible for a waiver.


If your plan meets the below criteria and you want to waive enrollment from the Student Health Insurance Plan, please acquire an electronic copy of the front and back of your insurance ID card and then select the link below to submit your waiver request. Please note: You will receive a submission confirmation email shortly after you submit your waiver Once you login, select the WAIVE button under the “I Already Have Insurance.” section.
